The Fifth Session of the 2026 Academy of Young Diplomats took place on March 27–29 in Warsaw. The session was held in person and centred around the topic “Global Security and Democratic Governance in the 21st Century”, bringing together participants, practitioners, and experts to explore key challenges in contemporary international affairs.

The programme featured a series of lectures and interactive workshops led by experienced practitioners and experts in international relations. Participants also took part in Specialisation Classes designed to deepen their knowledge and develop practical skills across key areas of diplomacy, governance, and international security, including public speaking for diplomats, media freedom and disinformation, ethics in international politics, geopolitics of terrorism, human rights and peacebuilding in conflict zones, and the implementation of foreign policy priorities within diplomatic practice.

A key highlight of the session was the Global Talks with Brig. Gen. Mariusz Chmielewski, who shared insights on contemporary security challenges and the evolving nature of defence and international cooperation. The session also featured a Leadership Lecture with Adam Bodnar, who reflected on democratic governance, the rule of law, and institutional resilience in the 21st century.

Throughout the session, participants engaged in thought-provoking discussions and hands-on learning activities addressing the evolving nature of global security, democratic resilience, and international cooperation. The diversity of topics and the high level of expertise among speakers contributed to a dynamic and intellectually stimulating learning environment.

A particularly valued aspect of the Fifth Session was the opportunity to meet in person in Warsaw. Participants highlighted the importance of face-to-face interaction in strengthening professional relationships, exchanging ideas, and further building the Academy’s growing community of young professionals in international affairs.

Many participants described the Fifth Session as “the best one so far” and noted that the Academy is “just getting better and better” with each edition, reflecting its continuous development and the strong engagement of its participants.

The Academy extends its gratitude to all participants for their energy, openness, and active contribution throughout the session. We look forward to continuing the journey together in the upcoming stages of the programme.
