Inclusive Governance and Democratic Resilience

Warsaw | May 16–18, 2025

The seventh session of the Academy of Young Diplomats (AYD) convened in Warsaw under the theme: “Inclusive Governance and Democratic Resilience: Youth, Diplomacy, and Policy Dialogue.” The event brought together emerging diplomats, international experts, and policymakers to examine the role of youth in shaping foreign policy and strengthening democratic institutions in a rapidly evolving global landscape.

Diplomatic Immersion through Embassy Study Visits

Participants began the session with visits to the Embassies of Belgium and Luxembourg, gaining firsthand insights into diplomatic practice, bilateral cooperation, and the day-to-day workings of foreign service missions.

Global Talks with Senior Diplomats

A high-level Global Talks panel, moderated by Joshua Burgin, featured:

  • Amb. Prof. Anastase Shyaka (Rwanda)

  • Amb. Patrick Haughey (Ireland)

  • Amb. Luca Franchetti Pardo (Italy)

  • Amb. Jennes de Mol (Netherlands)

Together, they discussed youth participation in diplomacy, the resilience of democratic institutions, and the challenges of foreign policy in an increasingly complex world order.

Hands-On Diplomatic Skills Workshops

Led by top practitioners, the second day focused on practical skill development:

  • Conflict Resolution & Negotiation

  • Persuasion and the Art of Networking

These sessions empowered participants with essential tools for influence, dialogue, and leadership in international contexts.

Specialisation Classes: Tailored Simulation Experiences

On the final day, participants engaged in specialisation tracks, simulating real-world policy and diplomatic scenarios:

  • International Organisations: EU Energy Policy-Making in Practice 

  • International Security: Model Diplomacy simulations with 

  • Foreign Service: Negotiations Between Countries in Conflict 

Empowering the Next Generation of Diplomats

Through a blend of immersive training, policy dialogue, and simulation-based learning, the seventh AYD session equipped young leaders to promote democratic values, foster international cooperation, and actively contribute to conflict prevention and resolution.
