We are still living with what happened at the Warsaw Security Forum.
During our Graduation Ceremony, we had the privilege of hosting a panel discussion with Anne Applebaum, moderated by Mark Leonard. Anne Applebaum addressed issues related to transformations in the international order, contradictions in U.S policy, support for Russia, and the challenges facing the democratic front. Her remarks focused on analyzing authoritarian regimes, threats to NATO’s eastern flank, and geopolitical challenges in transatlantic relations. It was a perfect finish to this year’s Academy of Young Diplomats.
At a conference this size, time is always tight. So we made the most of having such an exceptional guest in the room, and our graduates did not hold back. They asked sharp questions, challenged ideas, and showed exactly the curiosity and courage that diplomacy needs. Diplomacy is not just about understanding the world as it is. It is also about questioning existing narratives, engaging with different perspectives, and finding ways forward in an increasingly complex and uncertain international environment.
Moments like this remind us why we do this work. Our graduates are entering a world of profound geopolitical change, where democratic values, international cooperation, and the future of the transatlantic community face significant tests. They deserve the opportunity to learn from leading voices, challenge ideas, and develop the confidence to make their own voices heard.
A huge thank you to Anne Applebaum and Mark Leonard for sharing your time and insights.
Congratulations to all our graduates! We can’t wait to see where you take your voices next. 🎓
