Special Guest at the Academy of Young Diplomats 2020/2021

The European Academy of Diplomacy is proud to announce its Special Guest of the March Session* of its flagship program the Academy of Young Diplomats – Her Excellency Dr. Rania A. Al-Mashat – Minister of International Cooperation of Arab Republic of Egypt since December 2019.

The Academy of Young Diplomats is an annual diplomatic program that prepares and inspires a new generation of Future Leaders through one-of-a-kind learning experience with key government officials and international leaders. In the upcoming March Session of the Program, Minister Al-Mashat will deliver a Leadership Lecture on the Recovery and Sustainable Development: Post-Covid Future for the MENA Region.

H. E. Dr. Rania A. Al-Mashat was the first woman to serve as Egypt’s Minister of Tourism (between January 2018 and December 2019). Under her outstanding leadership, the sector achieved unprecedented tourism revenues, accelerating by 28% and exceeding historical outturns. It was further reflected in the World Economic Forum 2019 Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report, where Egypt scored 4th Highest Travel & Tourism performance improvement. In addition, under the guidance of Minister Al-Mashat, Egypt’s tourism ranked first in Africa on Country Branding through strategic positioning and strengthened active presence on the digital and social landscape.

Former Advisor to the Chief Economist of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington DC, Rania Al-Mashat specialized in central banking issues, and led the country mission teams on those. Several years of experience managing Egypt’s macroeconomic transition in the most challenging periods of its recent history, Rania Al-Mashat encouraged the recognition of tourism globally as a driver for sustainable development. She has also received a considerable number of international and domestic awards like “2019 Global Champion Award”, United Nations World Tourism Organization Destination Marketing Award, “Leadership in Tourism” among others. In addition, Rania Al-Mashat helped to design and present the Government of Egypt’s Economic Program after the 2011 revolution.
